US President Barack Obama will attend the 2010 World Cup in South Africa next year if his schedule permits.
Obama disclosed this to FIFA president Sepp Blatter yesterday when the two met.
Obama held talks with Blatter, head of the world soccer governing body FIFA, at the White House and urged Blatter to give “strong consideration to the US bid to host the World Cup in 2018 or 2022,” the White House said in a statement.
“President Obama thanked Blatter for inviting him to attend next year’s event and said he hoped his schedule would allow him to do so,” the statement said.
