The president of Velez Sarsfield, Fernando Raffaini, has met with the Real Madrid sporting director, Jorge Valdano, to negotiate the transfer of Argentine defender Nicolas Otamendi to the Spanish giants.
Apparently, Raffaini travelled to Europe to listen to an offer from Madrid. However, it has yet to be revealed whether a deal will take place.
As the champions of the Argentine Clausura, Velez have gained entry into the 2011 Copa Libertadores, and Ricardo Gareca, the coach of the club, believes Otamendi is a “fundamental” element of the squad. Because of this, he is hesitant to sell the player.
Otamendi, 21, was in sensational form for Velez last season, and he earned his first Argentina cap in a recent World Cup qualifying defeat to Ecuador in Quito.
DyN has reported that there was an “informal” meeting between Raffaini and Valdano, because Madrid “want to purchase the player in the future”, but that Otamendi will “stay at Velez for at least six more months”.
Even if a fee has yet to be agreed, Velez assure that it will be around the €15 million mark.
